The narrative rabbit hole: history, revisionist history, sociology, the news, these are mythological (cause and effect) constructs academia and journalists construct about events, almost wholly inaccurate, while the events reside in the chaos of primate behaviors.

    > He said he was less interested in Mamdani himself than he was in the Africana Studies part—a department of which, for a handful of years back at Bowdoin, I was indeed chair.

    > Full disclosure: I was, in my full-throttle commitment to destroying those heralded civilizational virtues, also chair of the Program in Gay and Lesbian Studies for a while there.

What do the programs in Africana Studies and Gay and Lesbian Studies have in common that it would make sense for the same person to chair either department?

What responsibilities does the chair of a department have? If it’s general management (people, timetables etc) then I can imagine a lot of the skills are transferable no matter what the subject matter is.

Maybe tenure with a diminishing portfolio?
